Tenodesis de biceps frente a tenotomía. (Inglés)

Armstrong, April D

Abstract:

Purpose of review:
The purpose of this paper is to review the most recent literature regarding biceps tenotomy and tenodesis. The indications, advantages, and disadvantages for both procedures are provided.

Recent findings:
In recent years a better appreciation of the biceps tendon as a significant source of pain in the shoulder has developed. Biceps tenotomy or tenodesis may be considered when irreversible structural changes exist within the biceps tendon or in situations where an autotenodesis is likely to occur. Limited research suggests that biceps tenotomy may be an alternative to biceps tenodesis in certain clinical situations. Recent literature has focused on new arthroscopic techniques for biceps tenodesis.

Summary:
Biceps tenodesis has been the mainstay of treatment for operative biceps pathologic conditions; however, more recent literature suggests that a simple biceps tenotomy may be considered in individuals older than 50 years.
